The effort you put in to make a website is only rewarded when your site is visited more often. Visitors share and recommend others to visit your site. You get ratings on search engines. And you are successful in your purpose for the site like selling or promoting goods and businesses.
If for some reason you are not getting the response you expect you could try altering a few things here and there. A good website should be user friendly, attractive and convincing at the same time. If the site doesn’t appeal in first glance it will likely be ignored and closed as soon as it opens. You can improve your site by working a little on your web design. Below are a 5 simple tips you can work on.
1. Keep your focus on the purpose.
It’s good to keep reminding yourself why you are actually making a website. Are you trying to sell some products? Or selling services? Or just promoting business and getting recognition? When designing a web page plan your web design that serves the purpose loyally. It should be easy for the visitor to get to the point, rather than search his way to what he actually wants to see. For example if the purpose of the site is to sell a particular product, then that product should be the shining star of the page. And information and details related to it should be easily viewable making it convincing and easy for the purchase to be made.
2. Don’t fancy it up too much.
Too much of graphics and colors gives a chaotic look and diverts one’s attention from the relevant matter. It is best to keep the background white or if you really want color, use a very light soft shade. A neat font in a reasonable size, (no more than 14 and no less than 10) should be used for typing context. Try to avoid unnecessary graphics and pictures that speak louder than words. Bright and bold colors cause visual fatigue and distract attention. The more organized and balanced your site is, the more appealing it is.
3. Make it easy to navigate.
Your home page should be as homey as can be. A visitor should be able to read and understand your motive in the first few seconds. Guide to the next step and buttons to take the visitor to the links available on your site, should be made prominent.
Horizontal scroll bars are a big No No! People get confused and annoyed when they have to scroll from left to right and right to left. Vertical scrolling however is much favorable, but if it becomes too lengthy it loses its charm.
Your text should be written in small paragraphs with sub heading and pointers to highlight main points. Avoid detailed text in one place instead link to other pages to keep the reader interested.
Use pictures and graphics that relate to the text. Be sure not to use too many bright colors and the size of the picture should be proportionate to the page and context.
4. Make it compatible with all devices.
There are quite a few gadgets out in the market now. Hence your website cannot be just bound with the computer or laptop. Tabs, tablets, iOS devices, android devices and windows for smart phones are commonly used for all purposes and your site should be viewable on all. Graphics flash and videos make the website slower to load and also are not available on all devices. Avoid using these (at least on the home page), as waiting can discourage the visitor and switch to another page.
5. Social media and sharing.
Options to share a page or recommend it on social media site helps to spread the word and increases the popularity of your web site. Include share and like buttons on every page of your website. This makes it more reachable for people and chances of visit increase by a large number. And all the popularity leads to being visible on search engine search too.
